The Questionnaire — Laura Goodson

Her work explores the spirit of the modern West through cowboys, outlaws, and wide open landscapes, blending nostalgia, grit, and story. Known for her roots in black and white painting and her growing use of rich Western color, her pieces capture both contrast and emotion. Beyond the canvas, Laura is deeply community minded and creates spaces that bring people together through art, generosity, and shared experience.

What’s your favorite spot in Denver?
Nowhere Coffee — the coffee is great, but the community Brandon has created is the best. You will always meet someone interesting at the trailer — someone creating something, going somewhere… And lots of dogs.

What’s next to your computer?
A knife — I’m always needing to cut something: canvas, LED lighting, wire, a fence…

Where do you go when you want to be alone?
My place in Houston is my perfect escape — I call it “the Cave.” Low lighting, concrete, comfy sofas…

In a perfect world, what would always be in your fridge?
Unreal dark chocolate coconut bars — they are the best when chilled. (There’s actually never anything else in my fridge.)

Where do you go for your perfect night out?
Steak frites at Brasserie Brixton — or just next door to Yacht Club for a hot dog. (Maybe both in one night?)

What three things do you keep in your car/handbag/on your person at all times?
A glove for painting, a vintage Stetson, many pairs of sunglasses.

What was your first concert?
The (Dixie) Chicks in San Antonio — five best friends and me!

Where are you hosting your next birthday party?
I want to go sit on a beach and have someone take care of me for a few days. I’m so, so busy and constantly moving around that having tacos brought to me while I nap on a lounger sounds like a perfect birthday.

What was the last thing you did for the first time?
Double mastectomy — for the first time and last time!
